2024 Recruitment

Team Positions

If you’re a self-motivated, driven and outcome-focused student, MUR is the perfect place for you to gain hands-on experience!

Joining the 2024 team gives you the opportunity to:

  • Complete engineering design and non-technical projects
  • Attend ‘masterclasses’ put on by our senior student engineers and alumni.
  • Get your hands dirty being exposed to, learning, and practicing different manufacturing techniques such as carbon fibre layup, laser cutting and soldering.
  • Be a part of a fun and social team, who are driven by a shared goal of winning the Formula SAE Australasia Competition!

To be considered as a team member of MUR in 2024 you must be a University of Melbourne student and be willing to get involved. That’s all! You don’t have to be an engineering or design student and if you would prefer to join the team in a non-technical capacity then you are also most welcome.

Required Qualifications:
  • Are competitive and driven. The work is challenging but that's when you learn the most! It's a huge project, so oftentimes you will have to become the expert in something - being independent, thinking critically, doing research online and being communicative about what you need to excel is key. Use "I don't know much but I'm willing to learn" as a guiding philosophy.
  • Are dedicated and can take responsibility. Things not only need to get done as we approach our competition date, but the sky is the limit when it comes to how amazing your designs or components can be. MUR needs people who we can count on to ensure that their designs are reliable, achievable, efficient and integrate well with the rest of the car.
  • Are communicative, honest and punctual. We are a large team, with many moving parts - all of them essential. For us all to reach that finish line at the end of the year, being able to work through problems and hit our milestones together is paramount.
  • Have passion. There isn't much of a chance to work with automobiles at a university level otherwise - your genuine interest and enthusiasm about what MUR does is apparent and will help to build a better learning and team environment for all.
Required Commitment:
  • 10 hours of work weekly. We ask of all members to allocate 10 hours of time per week throughout the semester. This is mostly of note when in the crunch period leading up to assignments and exams.
  • you must attend weekly sub-team meetings and full team meetings.
  • you must complete required trainings at TCS and other required TrainMe modules
  • you must understand the 2024 FSAE-A competition will occur at Calder Park Raceway between 4th December and 8th December. Attendance is mandatory but may be reviewed on case by case basis.
