MUR Motorsports Newsletter - April 2016

April was a very busy month for the whole MUR team!  Not only did the team work incredibly hard to meet the deadline of the design freeze, but this month we hosted our first trivia night of the year and conducted a tour of the workshops for a group of enthusiastic Bialik College students.  As the deadline of the design freeze has now passed, the manufacturing phase of the car has begun, so the whole MUR team will spend the rest of the year bringing the car to life!

External Design Reviews

MUR warmly invited industry representatives and past team members to the university for two nights in early April for the team’s external design reviews. This gave each sub-team the opportunity to explain and justify their design choices before the design freeze.  While no details can be revealed just yet, we believe each sub-team has made some excellent design choices, promising that this year will be the most competitive yet!

The two-night extravaganza was also a fantastic opportunity for our team members to network with industry representatives and learn from their vast and differing experiences.  While their interrogations were sometimes difficult, it was a fantastic opportunity for the whole MUR team to learn more about mechanical design from those with many more years of experience.

School Tour

This month, MUR played host to a group of enthusiastic Year 10 students from Bialik College.  The students first had the opportunity to chat to some of our team members and hear about all the work we do at MUR before taking a hands on tour of the workshop.  It was a pleasure to host such a bright and excited group of students, and we hope to welcome them back one day as MUR engineers!

Trivia Night

On April 11, MUR hosted its first trivia fundraiser of the year.  It was a great night for the all of the MUR quizmasters to test their knowledge and unwind with friends and supporters of MUR.  Congratulations to ‘Callum’s A Flog’ for taking out the top prize.  We would like to thank our sponsors at Hi Voltage Karts and Power Archery for providing us with some great prizes for the night!

Thanks also to everyone who came along!  We hope you all enjoyed yourselves and we hope to see you again at our next event!

MUR Business

This year, the Coordination sub-team decided to take MUR an extra mile by establishing MUR Business.  MUR Business comprises a group of talented students from the University of Melbourne coming from disciplines as diverse as engineering, commerce and design, who are working in four divisions: marketing, sponsorship, events and finance.  This team will be working on building MUR’s brand across the university, adding more value to our sponsorship and hosting more great events like we’ve seen in April. We’re also looking at acquiring more sponsors and industry supporters to grow our network as MUR continues to grow each year.  We’ll also be posting more on our Facebook and Instagram pages, so keep an eye out to see what we get up to during the month of May!
