MUR Motorsports Newsletter - March 2016

The first semester of 2016 is well underway, so our team members are heading back to uni while continuing to work on the 2016 car!  March was a quiet month for testing, as each sub-team was working on finalising the full CAD for the 2016 car for the upcoming external design reviews.  Once this is completed, manufacturing work will be able to commence, so April will prove to be an exciting month in the development of the 2016 car!

MUR at the F1 Australian Grand Prix

This year, the team had the opportunity to attend the F1 Australian Grand Prix.  The team and car were part of the industry

innovation precinct for the four-day event, and the car proved to be the main attraction of the stall for many racegoers.

The weekend proved to be quintessentially Melburnian with rain, hail and shine (and of course, wind!) and the team found themselves battling with the elements in order to keep their stall from blowing away! The weather did not deter the crowds though and the many attractions of the weekend saw many different racegoers heading to the MUR stall to chat to our team members.  The team had the opportunity to mingle with everyone from young car-enthusiasts to industry experts.  This gave the team the opportunity to talk about everything from the current developments in our 2016 car and the competitiveness of the team in this year’s competition, to some of the basic processes behind what it takes to build a race car.

Engine Developments

The engine sub-team has been busily working away and improving the car’s engine throughout the month of March.  They have been working on installing the new KTM single cylinder engine on the 2015 car in order to test the engine.  This will increase the power of the engine to make the 2016 car the most competitive yet!
