Key Responsibilities:

Safety Program Development

  • Develop and implement comprehensive safety programs and protocols for all team activities.
  • Ensure that all team members are trained in safety procedures and understand their responsibilities.

Risk Assessment and Management

  • Conduct regular risk assessments to identify potential hazards in the workshop, during testing, and at competitions.
  • Utilize the Risk Assessment Methodology and Definitions to assign risk ratings and formulate risk control measures.
  • Maintain and update the risk register and risk assessment templates.

Incident Response and Reporting

  • Develop and maintain incident response plans, ensuring the team is prepared for emergencies.
  • Lead investigations into any safety incidents, identifying root causes and implementing corrective actions.
  • Maintain detailed records of all safety incidents and actions taken.

Inspections and Audits

  • Conduct quarterly laboratory inspections using the standardized checklist.
  • Audit team practices to ensure adherence to safety protocols.
  • Provide recommendations for improvements based on inspection findings.

Training and Inductions

  • Organize and conduct safety training sessions for all team members, including Mech EV and Elec EV training.
  • Ensure that new members receive thorough safety orientations and complete necessary inductions for spaces such as the Student Project Garage and Project Build Lab.
  • Maintain the Training Matrix and review training submission forms to verify certifications.

Workspace and Equipment Safety

  • Oversee the proper use and maintenance of personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Ensure that all necessary safety equipment is available, in good condition, and used properly.
  • Conduct workspace inductions for specific areas, including the Student Project Garage, Project Build Lab, and Composites Room.

Liaison with Workshop Management

  • Work with workshop managers to ensure Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) procedures are being followed properly and documentation is up to date.
  • Collaborate on chemical safety documentation and other safety-related matters.

Documentation and Reporting

  • Maintain detailed records of all safety procedures, risk assessments, and training certifications.
  • Prepare reports and presentations to communicate safety updates and compliance to team leadership and stakeholders.
  • Ensure all safety documentation is organized and accessible.

Qualifications:

  • Proven experience in safety management, preferably within the automotive or motorsports industry.
  • Strong knowledge of safety regulations and best practices. Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to conduct thorough risk assessments and develop effective mitigation strategies.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work both independently and as part of a team.
  • Passion for motorsports and a keen understanding of the FSAE competition framework.
